In the known: BITTER MAMBO Punkrock from Madrid

Tags:

Hola amigos!! Again another country, another language and of course a brand new and fresh band from Madrid called BITTER MAMBO, they were once The Locos, now they are back without Pipi (ska-p) and a raging sound that more than thousand people will like!!
By: Miguel Guinness.

How and when did you start this band?
Well I was preparing myself for a melodic and hard project as bass player and singer, way before the second Locos CD was released plus Santi had a few demos that he makes the whole time at home, Ken had some demos too so it was in summer of 2008 so we decided to combine our music and 1 month and a week after we had already 17 finished songs in every aspect.
So where your name comes from and which influences do you have?
The name was Ken´s idea and honestly it didn’t have any meaning in particular, but with time we recognized that the name fitted us perfectly, BITTER MAMBO is a contradiction is simply like that is like talking really pessimistic, sarcastic or in the worst of the cases deconstructive but with happy melodies or at least pretty energetic.
Is your work already on the streets? Are you planning a tour soon?
The CD will be available in less than one month, the name is DIAS DE LUZ named after one of the songs included. 14 short songs all of them can reach a bit longer than just 36 minutes, every word, every note fits perfectly to every single theme, there´s nothing extra or pretentious on it. It’s the CD that you like to hear and it was made taking care of every single detail taking care of every simple detail. The LP is produced by Dany Alcover, (DOVER, PIGNOISE,  SUGARLESS, ZIA, Etc…) So that guarantee the hard and solid sound. We will make our debut the 7th of November @Tolerock Festival, in Toledo Spain and after that to play across Spain and then let´s the time decide where will be headed to.
After all the experiences that you had with The Locos, do you think that BITTER MAMBO is a more solid project?
As persons I think is way more solid, We are 3 lads who don’t want to pretend something else we are a team, we are our own managers in what we do, in my case I couldn’t have done anything without Santi´s music, I learn to play with a pick just observing Ken who is a real groove artist. So we go further as when we were in our last band. This time we don’t focus ourselves in what will we achieve, we enjoy our job at the moment, we love our path now the way it is.
Who write the lyrics, who create the melodies?
We are 2 guitars, bass and drums. At the beginning we were thinking about having a lead singer but as I worked with my voice it was no need to depend in somebody else so we are loyal to our “triunvirato” and everything was flowing naturally so Ken and Santi trusted in me as their singer, the drums were recorded by Hatuey former drummer of The Locos, But now we are playing with Dommer from Brazil (which I met in SALIDA NULA)
How the people have responded to your music, do you think that your past with The Locos will affect you or benefit you in a way?
I hope it doesn’t affect us at all, because from the lyrics to the kind of music is something totally different it has nothing in common of what The Locos was. Is just a pity that people associate us with the band they know you first and with The Locos a lot of people knew us.
How hard is to succeed with a band nowadays, compared with a few years ago?
That’s really relative and can be the same successful a really gifted musician or a really mediocre musician, we are already grownups like to be worried about fairy tales with football world cup ending, we are not focused in that anymore, we are not seduced about those matters, because the more you get worried about the result is the less that you enjoy what you do at the moment. Of course we believe in our sound our music and we didn’t make a band just to spend our time in our practice room, our inspiration is that our product is exactly what we wanted and that we were able to go ahead without dumb formulas, dogmas, etc…without cheering waves and flags that we don’t belong to but just quality in our art, the person who appreciate our music is going to do it forever and that’s exactly what we are expecting.
What do you think about Christian Metal core?
Funny that you are asking me that because lately I was hearing the recently defunct band called A KISS FOR JERSEY and I was pretty excited with their sound and then I asked myself who needs a god when u can play like that? hahaha but well now seriously what do you think that is worse, to sing about a god that you really believe in? Or to use the Che Guevara image just to cheer the public up, with no belief in his ideals? Is clear that religions each time have been minimized talking about art.
I believe that art must be a personal expression and I think is wrong to depend on the outside to create something just to be like a pastor guiding his flock of sheep, I even enjoy artist who contradict my ideals and principles instead the one that just preach the same over and over, for me that’s not art.
Anything extra you would like to say?
No Miguel thanks a lot and I´m really happy that we could count on you with this interview.
