Interview w/ THE MAD CADDIES

Tags:

This time I had to make a trip to the beautiful city of Bratislava, this time my mission was to find the MAD CADDIES and as soon as I arrived, I met Keith who nicely made the interview with me, after the interview the whole band and us went downtown Bratislava, where we had really good food, cool drinks and an amazing view. Now this amazing band is coming the 17th of august to Vienna along with AGAINST ME & THE AGGROLITES so as you know this is a must go concert!!

By: Miguel Guinness.

What is like the sound of your new release?
Keith: Is tough to say at this point we have already some recordings, and there are fans who like the rough style others a soft style so is always hard, we enjoy to play the rough style too then we headed more to this reggae thing, but now we will try to bring this punky sound to our songs.
You have a lot of promo pictures, why isn’t a bass player included on them and why there is not a bass player mentioned in your website?
Keith: Because we really don’t have a permanent bass player at this time, right now our friend Graham is filling for his first tour and is making a great job. So our original bass player left about 2 years back, since the is being tough after that we had a guy that we really loved a British guy but he got deported from the US (laughs) now he has to apply for a visa if he wants to travel there in the last year we took a lot of time off, we had a couple of line up changes in the last years, like we have a second drummer now.
Next year you will celebrate 15 years of existence, are there any special plans for this anniversary?
Keith: 15?? Mmm yeah you are right this is crazy, well only 13 for me but still, I love to tell you that we have a massive DVD material in the works, we have a lot of footage recorded through some many years we have some VHS material as well, but we will mix old and new footage in an upcoming DVD so being optimistic I would love to have a DVD as a milestone for these 15 years so is going to be finished the thing is that we are lazy bastards(laughs) but we will have the new CD for April 2010 and a full scale international tour through Australia, Canada, Japan, we are planning to go to Brazil and Argentina for the first time as well and of course to Mexico for the first time too, but good to know Miguel thanks for the reminder.
How is the support that FAT RECORDS had provided you during all these years?
Keith: They are great, Mike is great, he is always been really supportive they had to cut their staff size they have been hit really hard by the changing of the music industry and the economic crisis, but they still are like a family  the recordings, the graphic designs, promotions or web administrator, everyone there feel a connection with the bands they represent for a number of years they have a German office and I think that was a great idea to helping us come to play to this continent, being here personally being in touch with the venues, the organizers, other bands and with the fans. There are plenty of independent labels but we try better to keep it personally with Mike, we know that we have the right deal with him, in the level we are we have to keep moving a lot and that make things harder but we can pay our rents and live of what we love to do. And to move to a major record label is something that we already discussed with Mike so there are no intentions in leaving FAT RECORDS. We are happy with them Mike personally is big fan of our sound, so we will keep doing our job make the next record the best that we can.
So what do you think about bands who refuse to be in touch with their fans?
Keith: I don’t understand it personally because for me (extremely hot waitress walked in front of us so we stop breathing, both laugh) ok so back to the question personally I like to make a connection between the fans and us, to make them feel that they are part of us in a away, so after we play we like to go and shake hands talk with people, because we really appreciate the support and if you loose that connection is not the same experience at the show you know?  So is a symbiotic relationship.
How hard is to tour so much as you guys do?
Keith: Usually by the time we are in our houses for 2 months or more I start to miss being on tour and all of us feel the same too, if it takes a long time, it means that we will start to run out of money of the last tour we did anyway, so we need to get off our asses and play some shows otherwise, we got to take on jobs like construction or painting or gardening or something so that’s fine I like working but I rather play music than take a job. As soon as we produce music good music we will keep playing, travelling, touring as much as we can I mean we have guys who have girlfriends at home and personally that’s done for me at least for now and can be pretty rough, so that make things pretty difficult I mean is hard to find a girl who can keep a relationship with a guy playing in a band I guess you know that you will be out a lot of time.
What do you think about Christian/Metalcore??
Keith: Hahaha what? Que? (Laughs and more laughs) yeah I know it does exist, so you don’t want to get me started but there so much religious exposures and it seems like a contradiction, because you got one restricted culture mimicking another culture is supposedly everything that is against their beliefs like the church, and do you want to look like that and then sound like that, its like trying to still be hardcore but singing about Jesus Christ, but well if that’s their belief you have to validate it but not in a way like this, but is like blurring a line like saying I dude we can rock too! It doesn’t make sense to me so what I think about it is kind of ridiculous.
